Coming face to face with wild animals in a relaxed setting is a dream for many. Pretty popular on instagram is Voigtland, or ‘that place with the giraffes’. Although eating your coffee and toast among the giraffes is a wonderful experience, the owners decided to stop admitting children under 12.
A pity for families, but then again not. Just after we had left Namibia we got to know Ruben. An incredibly cool instagram account of a young man who welcomes tourists on his family farm. The Simmenau Farmstay!
The best thing of all is that they take in little animals that sadly no longer have a father or mother. The animals are incredibly tame and so sweet. In all honesty, I would jump on a plane again in a heartbeat.
On the family farm of Ruben from Namibia
On our family farm Simmenau (only 60km from Windhoek) there is plenty for tourists to do. The best of all are the tame orphaned animals we take in. At the moment those are a 28-year-old baboon, a number of meerkats, a little mongoose and a pair of warthogs. Hello Timon and Pumbaa!
Accommodation
The accommodation on the farm is a bungalow with two bedrooms. Each room has two single beds and its own bathroom. These overlook the lake, where you can see lots of wild animals: springbok, wildebeest, oryx, zebras, waterfowl and much more.
There is also a campsite by the lake with a zipline that will most certainly go down well with our younger guests.
Meals
We cook Namibian comfort food for you. Think of a cosy barbecue, most likely with a meerkat or mongoose on your lap.
